Bristol is the major city in the west of England, and as old as England itself.
A natural gateway in England, it sits on the River Severn, flowing into the Bristol Channel and onto the North Atlantic. This has made it a traditional port for inland and international shipping.
Renowned for having an alternative and relaxed vibe. Bristol is known as the capital of cool in England. It is the home to Drum and Bass and the street artist Banksy. Bristol University provides a youthful influence that helps the city to maintain this feel.
Famed Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel did many of his great works in Bristol, including; The Great Western Railway, The SS Great Britain and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. All of which can still be seen in Bristol today.
The annual August hot air balloon festival provides an international draw for tourists and some spectacular views.
Clifton in Bristol is famed for its stunning Georgian architecture, independent boutiques, restaurants and relaxed atmosphere. A must visit.
