Beautiful lakes in wild countryside

The Lake District is a National Park of 2,362sq km in Cumbria, north of England. Whilst the name infers that it is simply the beautiful lakes (including Windermere, Wast Water, Coniston and Ullswater) scattered throughout its stunning countryside it is known for, there is much more.


The mountains of the Lake District are consistently higher than those of the Peak District, including England’s highest peak Scafell Pike at 978m. These were famously catalogued in Wainwrights Pictorial Guide to The Lakeland Fells, becoming known as “The Wainwrights.”


The Lake District sweeps all the way to the Irish Coast with beautiful beaches to be explored including; Ravenglass, Seascale, Silecroft and St Bees among many.


The Lake District includes many stunning villages which have become a favourite second home destination. Some of the more beautiful villages include: Keswick, Kendal, Cartmel, and Dent.


The Lake District has become a premier “foodie” destination in England. Making use of the outstanding natural ingredients on land and sea to be sourced across the area. Ambleside has become particularly well known for the high number of acclaimed restaurants there.


The beauty of the Lake District has inspired many a poet, including the notable “Lake Poets” of: William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey.
