Europe and the Atlantic Islands

Whilst your typical European destinations will likely be too cold to properly enjoy the sun, heading south into the Atlantic can open up some fabulous sunny opportunities.


The Canary Islands are a traditional winter get away for European tourists in search of January sun.


A London to Tenerife flight takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes.


Destinations to consider include: Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.


Our favourite beach destination in January is: Lanzarote.


Whilst definitely hotter than Europe temperatures tend to average a high of about 20c.



North Africa

North Africa can be an easy reach for some January sun, by either direct flights or from connecting European flights.


Whilst not as hot as other places, a comfortable 20c high is consistently possible.


A London to Sharm el Sheikh flight tends to take approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes.


Destinations to consider include: Egypt, The Gambia and Morocco.

Middle East

January is a great time to visit the Middle East. Temperatures tend to be in the 20-30c high range, making it great for some sun but without it being oppressive.


As the weather is not as hot it tends to be the time where international festivals are staged. e.g. The Dubai Shopping Festival.


For Europeans looking for some excellent January sun, the Middle East tends to be a top destination. A London to Dubai flight takes approximately 7 hours.


Destinations to consider include: Dubai, Oman, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Africa

January is the African summer and dry season, making it an ideal time to visit if you want to get the peak hot months of Africa. Africa has beach resorts all along the Indian Ocean coast and a vast and wild interior to explore.


You can regularly expect temperatures of circa 30c.


Flights from London to Mombasa, Kenya take approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes. Flights from London to Cape Town take approximately 11 hours and 40 minutes.


Destinations to consider include: Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa, Madagascar, and Namibia.


Our favourite beach destinations in January are: Zanzibar, Tanzania; and Mozambique.



Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is a beautiful destination in January. While it can regularly get to 30c, that is a perfect climate for relaxing in luxury in this stunning destination.


In such a beautiful part of the world, you are spoilt for choice. With a variety of resorts across different budgets.


Flights from London to the Maldives are approximately 12 hours and 30 minutes. making an overnight flight the ideal option.


Destination to consider: Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Seychelles.

Asia

Whilst China, Japan and South Korea experience their winter in January, it is an excellent time to enjoy southern India, especially Goa.


The south of India is known for its relaxed and cultural atmosphere.


Flights from London to Goa take approximately 9 hours, putting them within comparatively easy reach for January sun.


Destinations to consider: Bhutan and India.

Caribbean

January is considered to be an excellent time to visit the Caribbean. Whilst this is technically the winter, it provides great, comfortable weather to enjoy the islands.


The southern islands of Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and St Lucia are at the south of the islands and can regularly experience highs of 30c.


Flights from London to Barbados can take as little as 8 hours and 45 minutes. Making the Caribbean an excellent January sun option within relatively easy reach.

North America

January is winter for North America, so the further south you go the better it will be.


Florida experiences average highs of 22c which makes it comfortable for viewing the theme parks. Los Angeles temperatures are an average high of 20c.


Further north and you will be in the midst of the USA and Canadian winter which can be very cold.


Flights from London to Miami take approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes.


Destinations to consider include: Florida, Las Vegas and California.

South and Central America

Central America tends to experience a climate somewhere between the Caribbean and southern United States. Mexico consistently has temperatures of highs in the mid 20c s.


South America being in the southern hemisphere has this time as summer. This is peak summer for Brazil, Argentina and Chile.


Flights from London to Cancun, Mexico take approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes. Flights from London to Rio de Janeiro take approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes.


Destinations to consider include: Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil and Argentina.


Our favourite beach destinations in January are: Papagayo, Costa Rica and Paraty, Brazil.



South East Asia

January is an excellent month to visit South East Asia.


Traditional resorts destinations such as Thailand are finding new competition from upcoming destinations such as The Philippines. South East Asia will offering something for every taste.


Whilst much of it will be in the wet season, it can still be a very enjoyable time to visit with plenty of opportunities for sunshine and temperatures regularly 30c.


Flights from London to Singapore take approximately 13 hours direct.


Destinations to consider include: Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Singapore.


Our favourite beach destinations in January are: Gili Islands, Indonesia; Langkawi, Malaysia; and The Philippines.



Australasia

Australia covers a vast expanse, from Perth Australia in the west to the Pacific Islands to the East.


January is the summer in the Southern Hemisphere and you will not struggle to find perfect temperatures. However, it is not consistent, parts of Australia can reach 40c+ at this time of year. The north of Australia will be experience the rainy season, with tropical and sometimes stormy conditions. In Australia Perth, Sydney and Brisbane will offer the most appealing climates. The North Island of New Zealand will be comfortable and the Pacific will be at its most beautiful.


Flights from London to Perth Australia can be reached in 17 hours direct flight time. Sydney Australia can be reached in 21 hours and 30 minutes. Tahiti in approximately 22 hours.


Destinations to consider include: Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Somoa, Tonga, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and French Polynesia.
